While working on my financial misinformation research, I found myself having to learn a lot about code-mixing and how language models handle the way people communicate online in India. After speaking with researchers working directly in this area, including Prof. Monojit Choudhury at MBZUAI and Dr. Prashant Kodali at Microsoft Research India, I ended up with a collection of papers, tools, and practical resources that helped me understand the field from scratch. I’m now putting these together into a beginner-friendly starter resource on code-mixing, covering where to start, what to read and in what order, and which tools are useful, especially if you’re coming from a non-technical background.
