Top Gear

One thing I haven’t talked about on my blog yet is my love and fanatic passion for cars. What with the expo going on (Sadly I can’t go this time :S) and all the hype about it, I needed something ro fulfill my desire for plated metal and the sounds of revs of those monstrous engines. Thankfully, I have Top Gear. It is the quintessential guide to anything that has more than one wheel (even propellers and landing gears count) and moves. Combined with the awesome Brit comedy, it is a treat to watch.

One thing really nice is their frequent challenge segments in which they take on a series of absolutely ridiculous tasks in a scenic place and kick some Fifth Gear ass while doing it. (Fifth Gear is their rival show. While Top Gear is actually a Fifth Gear ripoff, its way better than it) There are many special segments too:

The vid above has a Ford Fiesta being road tested, if being chased by a Courvette in a real shopping mall and then taking part in a Royal Marine assault can be called a road test.
The show is sometimes biased towards British cars and  against Asian cars, though: (Koreans are referred to as “little flat nosed businessmen” in some episodes)

They mock the Nano too: (This I agree with, as the Nano is definitely the most unsightly and disgusting car ever made)

And since I have to download the episodes as theyre not aired in India, I even subscribe to the magazine. The mag is really neat stuff. It combines the original content and articles from the British mag (including Jeremy’s and Richard’s columns) with stuff made by the Indian team, which is also quite nice. And there’s a lot more apart from automobiles in it too, like music, gadgets, bicycles, other sports, Ripleys-lie tidbits about cars and some part of it is just for the humour.

So right now, since I’m not going to the Auto Expo this year (very disappointed about that, but just don’t have the time :| ), I know just watch to watch to make up for it :D
