Unless you’re living under a (soundproof) rock, you will have heard of the Foo Fighters. Formed by ex-Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl (who is now on the vocals and guitar), they have been a fairly successful post-grunge band. Though their last full studio album was released in 2007, there was also a Greatest Hits release in 2009 featuring two new songs, Wheels (Youtube link) and Word Forward, produced by ex-Nirvana producer Butch Vig. Wheels eventually became one of my favourite Foo Fighters tracks, for its light, melodious riff and catchy vocals.
So when Butch Vig is producing a full studio album for Foo Fighters, Wasting Light (to be released in April), it is reason enough to patiently wait for it. And of course, for those not convinced, they’re out with their new single, White Limo:
Clearly, they’re trying to take the ‘post’ out of their ‘post-grunge’ label, by going back to their roots again. Another catchy riff, but those looking for the heavy presence of vocals will be disappointed. The only part I could decipher was when Grohl sings a short part of the chorus in the patent way he used to sing these before (He sings ‘It has something that goes round and round and round..’). All the same, a pretty neat track, and a pretty neat video.

Infact, the end of the song parodies the end of another Foo Fighter’s video, Long Road to Ruin (their funniest music video yet) :

UPDATE: Another single from the same album, Rope has also been released:
